Lasagne

Ingredients
  • 1 lbs ground beef
  • 1 medium onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 jar tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoons basil (or Italian seasoning )
  • salt and black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese
  • Lasagne sheets (oven ready ones)
  • 3 cloves garlic

Instructions

    In a pan, cook the onion in a little olive oil until soft. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Add the ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.

    Add tomato paste, tomato sauce, basil, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 20–30 minutes. The sauce should be rich, not watery.

    To assemble the lasagne: Lasagne sheets Meat sauce Mozzarella cheese Béchamel sauce You keep repeating the lasagne sheets and meat sauce, the last two layers should be mozzarella cheese then the bechamel sauce.

    Cover with foil and bake at 375°F / 190°C for 40 minutes.

    Remove the foil and bake another 15–20 minutes until the top is golden and bubbling.

    For a darker browned top, broil/grill it for 2–4 minutes at the end, but watch it closely.

    Let it rest for 15–20 minutes before serving. This is important so it holds its shape and does not collapse.

A good lasagne depends on three things: thick meat sauce, enough cheese, and resting time after baking.
