Ingredients
  • 8 piece chicken legs (you can use breast too )
  • 4-5 medium potatoes (cut into halves)
  • 2-3 tablespoon olive oil
  • 5 cloves garlic (crushed)
  • 1/2 lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoon origano
  • salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. 1

Season the chicken legs with salt and black pepper. Heat a pan and fry the chicken until golden brown on both sides, then remove it from the pan and set it aside.

  2. 2

To prepare the marinade, mix the crushed garlic with olive oil, fresh lemon juice, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Pour half of the mixture over the potatoes and toss until well coated.

  3. 3

Arrange the browned chicken legs in an oven tray, then place the marinated potatoes around and over the chicken. Pour the remaining lemon and garlic mixture over everything.

  4. 4

Cover the tray and bake in a preheated oven at 425°F (220°C) for about 1 hour, or until the chicken is fully cooked and the potatoes are tender. Remove the cover and place the tray under the grill or broiler for about 5 minutes, until the chicken and potatoes are beautifully golden and crispy.

Chef's Notes

In Greece, lemon-oregano roasted chicken and potatoes is a classic family-style meal often associated with Sunday gatherings. The potatoes are especially loved because they roast in the lemon, olive oil, garlic, oregano, and chicken juices, soaking up all the flavour while becoming tender and golden.
