Creamy Mashed Potatoes

  • 10-12 medium potatoes
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup milk (added gradually)
  • salt and pepper

    Peel the potatoes and cut them into evenly sized cubes. Place them in a pot of water and boil until they are completely soft and easy to pierce with a fork. Drain the potatoes, then mash them until smooth. Add the butter and gradually pour in a little milk, adjusting the amount depending on how creamy you want the mashed potatoes to be. Season with salt and black pepper, then mix well until soft, fluffy, and delicious.

Chef's Notes

Mashed potatoes have been a comfort-food favourite for hundreds of years! One of the earliest published mashed potato recipes appeared in Hannah Glasse’s English cookbook The Art of Cookery Made Plain and Easy in 1747, combining potatoes with milk, butter, and salt, very similar to how we still enjoy them today.
