Za'atar is deeply loved in Palestine because it is more than just food — it is connected to family, tradition, the land, and daily life. For generations, Palestinian families have used za’atar in breakfasts, baking, olive oil dipping, and traditional dishes. The smell of fresh za’atar and olive oil is something many Palestinians grow up with from childhood.
Wild za’atar also grows naturally in parts of Palestine, especially in the hills and countryside, which gives it a strong connection to the land and heritage. For many people, eating za’atar brings feelings of home, simplicity, and identity.
It is also loved because it is healthy, flavourful, affordable, and easy to prepare. A simple piece of bread with olive oil and za’atar has been a traditional breakfast for generations across Palestine and the Levant.
